An aircraft control surface.
A new purpose on the ground.
I reverse-engineered a nearly 20-foot aileron and designed a table around its existing hinge points, creating a parametric SolidWorks assembly for the legs, steel frame, and aluminum fairings.

Repeated tape measurements and CAD cross-checks captured the existing geometry. A master wireframe propagated dimensional changes through the assembly in minutes.
Design for the build
Steel carries loads into the aileron, while aluminum stringers support the tabletop. Fairings were designed to cover internal mounts and sharp edges.
Fit, weld & refine
I produced drawings and co-fabricated the MIG-welded frame with laboratory engineers within a ¼-inch allowance, then updated the CAD to match the built frame.
Project status Steel frame co-fabricated; waterjet files prepared. Aluminum fairing fabrication awaits supplier availability.
