A laboratory sign-in kiosk and database workflows linking people, equipment, visits, and projects.
Overview
The project replaces a lengthy Google Forms sign-in process with a dedicated kiosk and connects laboratory activity to administrative records.
My contribution
I built a working Linux/Python/Kivy kiosk on repurposed hardware and developed database relationships, interface flows, and code around laboratory engineers’ needs.
Engineering approach
An Access/VBA interface and SQL queries support workflows for people, student and research groups, equipment hours, tool checkouts, projects, and funding.
Results & current status
Observed sign-in/out time during development fell from minutes to seconds. Deployment and formal workflow testing remain pending; this is not a completed production evaluation.
